Parshuram Kund is a hindu pilgrimage site located on the Brahmaputra plateau in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh. The site’s religious significance is an interesting narrative where the story goes as such: When lord Parshuram, who was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, killed his mother on the command of his father, the axe with which he killed her stuck to his hand and was not coming off due to the heinous crime he committed. Feeling the need to wash away his sins, lord Parshuram visited the Lohit river in Arunachal Pradesh. As soon as he dipped his hand into the pristine water of the river, the axe came off his hand. Since then the site is known as Parshuram Kund. Today, it is visited by thousands of Hindu devotees and sages, who come here to atone for their sins by taking a dip in the holy waters of Parshuram Kund, especially during the festive season of Makar Sankranti in January.
