When the first man and woman stepped on earth, the woman gave birth to her three children, a human, a monkey and a tiger. But with time a lot of disputes started happening between the three of them. The mother tried different methods to keep them apart. She would feed them differently, for example, she would give raw meat to the tiger and cooked meat to the human. She started providing them differently, according to their needs. But this would not keep them from fighting, so the mother thought of putting an end to it. One day the mother wanted to check the competency of their children and thus she gave three different tasks to them – the tiger was asked to count fishes; the man was told to count cane sticks and the money was asked to sit over hot Taro leaves. The man was fast and competent enough to count the sticks but the tiger was always missing the numbers. According to the test, the one who will finish the game will shoot the other ones with arrows and thus the tiger and monkey was shot by the man at the end.
Due to this, killing of tiger and monkey is considered as a sin in the clan. The sin can also turn into a curse if its done intentionally, but if not , a series of rituals are carried out by the priest to wash off the sin. Till this day and date, this legend is strongly believed by the Miju Mishmi tribe and killing of tiger and monkey is strictly prohibited.
